On 27 and 28 April 2015, Riga for the first time will host the fifth Asia-Europe Meeting of Ministers for Education (ASEM ME5). The agenda of the meeting will be adopted, having regard to the current ASEM areas of cooperation, such as: quality assurance and recognition, engaging business and industry in education, balanced mobility, and lifelong learning, including technical and vocational education and training.

In order to prepare for the upcoming meeting, Riga will host 1st Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM1) on 10 and 11 November 2014. The 2nd Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM2) will take place on 26 April 2015.

ASEM is an informal process of dialogue and cooperation bringing together the 27 European Union member states, 2 other European countries, and the European Union with 20 Asian countries and the ASEAN Secretariat. The ASEM dialogue addresses political, economic and cultural issues, with the objective of strengthening the relationship between our two regions, in a spirit of mutual respect and equal partnership.
