On October 15, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the amendments developed by the Ministry of Education and Science, enabling Latvian scientific institutions and companies to fully participate in the latest European Union (EU) programs. With funding from the "Horizon Europe" framework program, Latvia's competence in the field of microchips will be enhanced.
The changes relate to the EU Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU), thus ensuring the participation of Latvian scientific institutions and companies, as well as the opportunity to receive co-financing from relevant project calls. The Chips Joint Undertaking is a tripartite partnership aimed at promoting the development and implementation of advanced nanoelectronic microchip technologies and systems manufactured in Europe. It operates within the "Horizon Europe" framework program.
These amendments will also promote the development of science and technology by enhancing Latvia's competence in the field of microchips, thus strengthening the national potential in science and innovation.
The Ministry of Education and Science collaborates with line ministries, the Latvian Council of Science, and the Latvian Education and Science Workers' Union to ensure the successful implementation of the regulations and facilitate the participation of Latvian researchers and companies in international research programs.
