In just a week’s time, on 19th May representatives from European Space Agency (ESA) and European Commission will arrive in Riga to participate in a workshop “Satellite applications: Opportunities for Baltics. Benefits for people, companies and public administration” to explain how enterprises can use satellite resources for their new products.

The workshop is organized by Latvian Space Technologies and Services cluster coordinator – foundation “Ventspils High Technology Park” in close cooperation with EURISY – organization with 25 years of experience in bridging space and society. Workshop programme foresees speakers from European Space agency, European GNSS Agency and European Commission DG GROW Copernicus: Services, as well as representatives from Estonia and Lithuania supporting development of space industry in relevant countries. The event is also included in the official programme of events of Latvian presidency in EU Council with the aim of informing public institutions and entrepreneurs on space resouces and opportunities of their application in practice.

The aim of the workshop is to inform small and medium size enterprises as well as public institutions about potential applications of satellite resources available free of charge from satellites lounched in the framework of EC Copernicus and Galileo / EGNOS programs. Workshop will provide theoretical information as well as practical demonstrations on how to access these resources. Participants will have the opportunity to hear entrepreneurs who are already providing or developing satellite-derived services.

During the panel discussion differences among the Baltic States’ development paths of space industry will be discussed. Panelists will also identify needs and tendencies of space resources application and how to cooperate to facilitate development of new and innovative products using satellite resources. Unoficial part and networking is planned during lunch when all participants will have the possiblity to approach ESA and EC representatives to ask their questions, as well as create partnerships in space industry with other entrepreneurs.

The workshop will be of interest to IT and electronics companies, as well as companies from other sectors looking for new market niches. Public institutions in charge of controlling and monitoring objects and infrastructures of large scale are especially welcome.

The conversation continues the next day, May 20th, when European Economic and Social Committee organizes a conference “Boosting regional success in space: the Baltic way!” in Kaunas, Lithuania. Organizers provide a transport to the event (one-way) on evening of May 19th with limited seating. Interesents to participate in this conference should identify their wish to travel to Kaunas ASAP to Maija Cebere. Otherwise participants are welcome to come by their own way of travelling.
