University of Latvia researcher Dr.sc.pol. Valts Kalniņš has published a study defined in scope by the Ministry of Education and Science and funded by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) on “The use of research-based evidence in the Latvian parliament” with a specific focus on the area of demography and migration policies.
This study assesses the supply of and demand for research-based and policy-relevant evidence in the Saeima and outlines recommendations for the Saeima, the executive, as well as for researchers and research institutions.
The recommendations of the study will be integrated into the revised Latvian Council of Science research impact guidelines (informative material for researchers) and used by the Ministry for science communication and other activities to promote evidence-informed policy-making and increase the policy impact of publicly funded research.
The study is funded by the European Commission Joint Research Centre as part of the “Science Meets Parliaments – Science Meets Regions” conference series. Information about the conference “Demographic Challenges: From Knowledge to Action!” organized in Riga can be found here.
